Building on prior knowledge, the 5 and 6 year old children have a more in-depth study of musical concepts such as rhythm and beat, melody and pitch, dynamics, form and notation. This enables them to develop important skills such as thinking, language, coordination and understanding emotions. African music is introduced through African storytelling, polyrhythms and creating music. Instruments are made from recycled material and natural elements like stones, wood or seeds.
Extension of the different elements of music like rhythm and beat, melody and pitch, form, tone colour, dynamics and tempo are explored through playing percussion instruments, moving (free or choreographed), singing and using body percussion. We combine music with art and drama for fun-filled and enjoyable classes, using our imagination as we learn more about music.
